FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold responds mainly to real interest rate expectations, the US dollar, and demand for defensive assets. When yields or the dollar rise, gold often faces pressure; when uncertainty grows, buying tends to appear. Supply from mines and recycling matters over longer horizons, but day to day the price is driven by macro expectations and positioning.

Why is gold quoted in USD when I am trading from the Philippines?

XAU/USD is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce worldwide, so the reference price near 4275.0 is a dollar figure. Your profit or loss is realised in the account currency, and converting to pesos depends on the USD/PHP rate your broker applies. The peso amount therefore moves with both gold and the exchange rate.

How much is one pip on gold compared with forex pairs?

On XAU/USD one pip is 0.01 of a dollar per ounce, and a standard lot is 100 oz, so a one-pip move is $1 per standard lot. That is a much larger tick value than on most currency pairs, which is why gold position sizing deserves more care than a typical forex trade of the same lot size.

Does the PSE have anything to do with gold trading?

No. The Philippine Stock Exchange lists equities, not spot gold, and XAU/USD trades on the global over-the-counter market through your broker. Local investors sometimes compare gold with PSE holdings as a store of value, but the trading mechanics, hours and leverage are entirely different from buying shares.

Is a price near 4275.0 expensive for gold?

A high headline number does not by itself make gold expensive or cheap. What matters is where price sits relative to recent ranges, real yields, and your own entry and risk plan. Use the reference price as context, check the live price page for the current quote, and size the trade rather than judging the level alone.
